Balancing the Blessings and Burdens of Tech

The mission of our network is to convene Christian tech workers for peer relationships, help cultivate a renewed Kingdom imagination for their work, and to help catalyze them toward redemptive action in their workplace, industry, or city. This network connects software engineers, IT professionals, UX/UI designers, and any professionals who significantly utilize AI, technology, or software design in their work. Our next quarterly gathering will be a dinner from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, November 18.

Two Tech Bros and a Theologian Walk into a Bar…  

No? Here’s the punchline. We’ve designed a community conversation prompted by a panel discussion between two seasoned tech professionals and a theologian who thinks biblically about humans and their technology. It may be the only room in town where “tech debt,” “refactoring,” and “existential finitude” all end up in the same conversation. 

They’ll reflect on the significant ways that digital technology and the work to produce it have been a blessing to the world. But they’ll discuss how the work and its products are also burdening people. We’ll all jump in with our own responses and questions afterward. Our communal goal is to be better stewards of the good of our work and more clear and honest about its risks. 

You can expect three things this evening:

1. Eat: We believe there is great value in faithful working technologists knowing other Christians like them in the city. So we share a meal to know others and what they are working on.
2. Learn: We’ll talk about the blessings and burdens of tech work and tech products.
3. Build: We’ll informally talk with other professionals about the work we are doing, the ideas we have, and any redemptive technological solutions we are dreaming up.

Before this Renew Tech dinner gathering, come early and cowork with us! We’re opening the Denver Institute offices for the afternoon to anyone working in the tech space (you and any friends) for co-working. We’ll provide coffee, drinks, snacks, WiFi, whiteboards, a few bonus monitors, and access to screen sharing. Feel free to work solo, take calls, host small meetings, or connect with others to talk through issues in your ventures. We’ll have private and public spaces available all day!

We’ve had anywhere from 5 to 15 people drop in and out through past coworking days, so come and go as your schedule allows.
